Frequently Asked Questions

Here are some common questions that people have about yoga for anxiety and depression. If the answer to your question isn’t here, please email me: alysha@sadyoga.com I’d be delighted to hear from you!
Is this class okay for beginners? I have never done yoga before.
Yes, the class is perfect for people with no yoga experience. It is a slow pace class that is focused on your emotional wellness, I won’t be asking you to twist yourself into a pretzel or try to stand on your head! If ever you find something a bit tricky, you can tell me and I’ll help you through, but most people find it is a good match for their skill level.
I'm not very fit, and I'm not very flexible, will this class still be okay for me?
Yes, over the years I have worked out how to design a yoga class that is a good fit for people who are not very fit and not very flexible. If you are worried about your health or safety (like if you have a bad back or brittle bones or similar) you should chat with your doctor before coming to class. Also, have a chat to me before class so I can make sure that you are looking after yourself.
I will have to miss a class during term, is that okay?

It’s okay if you need to miss a class, you can arrange with me to attend a class on a different night without any hassle.

If you’re away for the whole week, you can attend your regular class plus a make-up class anytime during the term. Just let me know so I can lay a mat out for you in another class.

Alternatively, I can send you the link to that week’s class online, so you can practice at home at a time that suits you.

I need to miss the first class of term, is that okay?
It is not unusual for people to miss the first class of term, you can make it up by attending in a different location or you can just come along next week. With the way I teach classes you won’t feel left behind, you’ll be fine. Give me a call if you are still worried.
What should I wear?
You can wear whatever you feel comfortable to move in. You don’t need fancy yoga clothes.
I see you have an online class, how does that work?

People who enrol in the online class will get sent details to access a video of each weeks class.  You will cover the same material as the in-person classes but you can attend from the privacy of your own home. Some people may find that they want to attend a term of classes online to build up their confidence before they attend a class in person, that is fine.

Can I try a class first or only do one class?
I don’t have trial, drop in or casual classes as the term is run like a progressive course.  The more you attend, the more you’ll learn, do and get out of it.  What I do offer is my weird money back guarantee: If you attend classes and at the end of four weeks feel that you haven’t noticed an improvement in your emotional life, I’ll refund your money.
How many people are in the class?
I too find the big yoga studios overwhelming and packed so I do things very differently and keep the numbers to an average of 10 people.  Not too many that you feel crowded, and not too few that you stand out. I lay the mats and blankets out before the class so all you need to do is walk in and lie down.
Is it one class per week?
The term is designed so that you attend 1 class per week.
Is there a minimum age? Can I bring my daughter or son? Am I too young?

There is no minimum or maximum age to participate in this class. I have people of all ages attending these classes.

Please do come together with your daughter or son, that’s lovely. In most of my classes I have that combination and it works really well.

What happens at the end of the term?

Most people re-enrol in the next term that follows straight after.

People get into the helpful habit of attending each week and the classes serve as their regular self-care routine. Think of how healthy your teeth are because you brush them each day to maintain your oral hygiene.  Attending these classes each week is like taking care of your ’emotional hygiene’.
